Oral health during pregnancy

Keep teeth healthy during pregnancy

Pregnancy can lead to all kinds of changes but one of these, an alteration in hormone levels, can be particularly problematic as it increases the risk of developing of gum disease. Raised progesterone levels can affect how the body reacts to the bacteria in plaque and can lead to swollen, inflamed or bleeding gums.

Other oral conditions that can occur during pregnancy include:

  • Pregnancy granuloma – characterised by nodules on the upper gums
  • Severe morning sickness – which can cause enamel erosion
  • Dry mouth

So we can monitor your teeth and gums, be sure to sure have a check-up if you are pregnant.
