Healthy gums are vital because they keep your teeth firmly in position. If you do not remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, these deposits can irritate the gums. This can lead to the initial stage of gum disease, known as gingivitis, characterised by reddening, swelling or bleeding when brushing your teeth. If this is not treated, it can become periodontitis, a more serious stage which can damage the gums and underlying bone and ultimately result in tooth loss.
We recommend you maintain an effective oral hygiene routine to keep your gums in top condition. You should also see your hygienist regularly and attend routine check-ups so we can spot problems at an early stage.
